Style It. Spring Racing Carnival

Get set to place your bets ladies and gents because hysteria will soon be taking over Melbourne and the rest of the country. With just a few weeks until the Spring Racing Carnival kicks off, it's time to plan those all important outfits.

The savvy racers amongst you will know that each event has a dress code, so I thought I'd provide some pearls of wisdom style on what you should wear to each occasion.

Derby Day
The first event, being Derby Day, is my favourite because it's all about monochrome and who doesn't look good in black and white? If you're stuck for ideas, you can't go wrong with an LBD but if you want to stand out against the sea of black, white head-to-toe is a huge trend this season. This is the most elegant of all the days so keep it classic and leave the sequins and midriffs at home!

Melbourne Cup Day
This is the day to go bold and bright. Choose a striking hue and incorporate some metallic elements, then tie it altogether with a stylish headpiece - take note: traditional fascinators are out this season, look instead to a floral piece, statement lace or a jewelled style.

Oaks Day
Otherwise known as 'Ladies Day', be sure to opt for a feminine approach on the third day of the Flemington carnival. Think soft and pretty when putting your outfit together. Try pastel shades, soft floral prints and hints of lace.

Stakes Day
As the fourth and final day of the carnival, this one is a little more low key so comfort is essential. Loose tailoring, soft billowing dresses and relaxed suiting are all great trends for this day. Headwear also follows a more casual approach - try a fedora or a wide-brimmed straw design.
